Yume is going on a walk down memory lane to celebrate our major milestone: preventing 2,000,000kgs of food from going to waste!
In September 2018, a large manufacturer approached Yume with surplus Maltitol (don’t worry, it took us a while to learn how to pronounce it correctly too!) - a powdered sweetener commonly used in the food industry. With no obvious buyers, we had to think creatively to prevent this from going to waste.
Through much research, we discovered that this ingredient is used to coat a lot of medicine to give it a sweet taste. We reached out to a pharmaceutical manufacturer based in Melbourne, who ended up buying 7,800 kilos! Watch our CFO, Ros Aikman, explain why this is her favourite Yume story below.
